Coach here. Before I get to today's headlines, make sure you hop on over to YouTube to check out the newest episode of "Hey Coach Havana". Now, onto the headlines.
The Celtics won the NBA Finals last night. I'd say this is great, but weren't they the preseason pick to win it all? Sure, memories of Bird and Magic made this series tolerable, but beyond that, it wasn't really exciting.
Tiger Woods is hanging it up for the year to get surgery. Man, this takes balls. He knew he needed the surgery, but he wanted to win the US Open. Not only did he win, but he played an extra 19 holes on the bum leg. His loins must be overflowing with manliness.
A Georgia high school baseball team made the news, however, it slid under my radar, so I'm a little late to the party. On May 31, Stephens County was losing the Class AAA championship to Cartersville 9-1 in the 4th inning. Sick of all the "bad calls" that were happening, the pitcher threw a high fastball. The catcher moved his mitt at the last second, allowing the ball to strike the umpire in the mask. If anyone knows these kids, send them my way. I'll buy them dinner. Umps and refs feel like they're above the players. Let this be a lesson that they aren't.
That's all the time for today. GET SOME BALLS!!!

Headlines for 17 June 08
Sorry for the hiatus. The Coach took an extended weekend to enjoy some Rock Band and the US Open. Here's my take on today's headlines.
The Mets fired Willie Randolph. The Coach has never been fired; I'm just too good. But my heart breaks for dear Willie. Everybody saw this coming, but the Mets did it in the most classless way possible. The front office is as much to blame as anyone, seeing as they only made one significant offseason move (Johann Santana) and figured that's all they needed.
Tiger Woods won the US Open in the most dramatic fashion. It took an 18 hole playoff AND an extra "sudden death elimination" hole. Much dap to Rocco Mediate, who had the tournament of his life. It just goes to show why there's Tiger and then there's everyone else.
Javon Walker, WR, Oakland Raiders, was robbed and assaulted in Las Vegas. Thankfully, he may be released from the hospital as early as today. Now, as I've said before, the Coach loves to gamble. However, I would strictly forbid my players from stepping foot in Vegas. Nothing good ever comes of athlete's being there (see: Pacman Jones). Now, don't get me wrong, I don't blame Walker for this incident. Players just need to realize that not only do they become icons and role models, but they also become targets.
That's all for today. I'll be entering the studio later today to film Episode 003 of "Hey Coach Havana" so keep an eye out for that. Until then, GET SOME BALLS!!!

Headlines for 11 June 08
Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy was fired for gambling on games. Now, he's come out and said that the 2002 and 2005 NBA Playoffs were rigged. I'm perfectly fine with this. As a coaching legend and gambling connoisseur, I can say that you need to expect everything. If the game in question is the Lakers/Kings matchup in Game 6 of the 2002 Playoffs, the Kings can't blame the referees. So what if they took more free throws? Make more of your other shots. The refs can't call a foul on you just for draining three's all night. Also, Coach Havana fully supports the Shaq/Kobe Lakers. They were the better team.
Terrell Owens says he doesn't care that he's going to be test more often for performance-enhancing drugs now that he's in the NFL's "reasonable cause" testing program. He does admit to being frustrated. He claims the "reasonable cause" was a communication error. My problem with this is that it was over a random test. What kind of system are they running here? If you want to randomly test someone, tap them on the shoulder, show them the cup and make them piss. There's no possible room for miscommunication or anything. Either you take a leak on the spot or you get busted.
Plaxico Burress is skipping mandatory minicamp until he gets a new contract. Lucky for him, he doesn't play for Coach Havana. If he was on my team, I would approach the owner and explain that he's either with the team or against the team. You skip my practice, don't come back weeks later expecting a roster spot. Don't pay the greedy bastard and let him ride the pine. For the love of God, just don't release him. Then he'll sign his fat deal and get rewarded for being a douche.
Well, that's all I've got for today. Look for episode 2 of "Hey Coach Havana" sometime tomorrow. And remember, GET SOME BALLS!!!

Say Hello to Coach Havana
Coach here. I've started a new series available on YouTube called "Hey Coach Havana". The first episode should be live any time now. I'll be sure to make a new post when that occurs. But for now, let me tell you a little about myself.
When you think great coaches, who do you think? Lombardi? Paterno? Wooden? They're all great answers, but Coach Havana should top that list. I've just been blackballed by the media, so no one knows my name. Now, thanks to the Internet, everyone will.
Feel free to leave comments here or email me at HeyCoachHavana@gmail.com with your questions, comments, show ideas, or anything else.
This is Coach Havana, signing off, reminding you to GET SOME BALLS!!!
